The Audi A4, known as one of the main players in the mid-sized executive sedan segment of the auto market has been available from Audi since 1994. Still produced, the model is in its fourth generation. The first generation, from 1994-2001, was designated internally at Audi as the B5. Available with an inline transverse four cylinder and a similarly oriented V6, engine options ranged from displacements of 1.6 to 1.8, 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 liters in the US market of gasoline engines. The transmission options in the A4 were a four and five-speed automatic, and a five and then six-speed manual.

In 2001 Audi’s A4 B6 body style, significantly revamped and updated was popular in enthusiast circles as it hearkened back in its design to the B5 and featured a new structural platform for better handling and safety results in combination with updated independent suspension.

Audi has always been focused on the performance of their machines, and the A4 was no different with its S Line. Featuring increased engine size and horsepower ratings over the standard A4, the S4 also featured slightly lowered, stiffer suspension for better sports handling, bolstered seats to hold drivers and passengers in their place, and slight exterior styling changes to improve aerodynamics.

As the generations of Audi A4 have evolved, the Avant station wagon was introduced for the 2008 model year to accompany the sedan and extended wheelbase sedan, and has been available since with the option of front wheel drive or all wheel drive as the A4 Quattro. In 2009, using the Avant platform, Audi released the A4 Allroad, a semi-off road four wheel drive version of the refined Avant wagon. With increased brushed aluminum accents on the exterior, higher ground clearance and other off-road friendly accents.
