While it utilized the chassis of the then-new 997 generation, it essentially constituted an entirely distinct vehicle.The primary differentiating factor lies beneath the hood - a 3.8-liter flat-six engine with dual turbocharging, tooted in the earlier M96 design scheme. This engine operates in conjunction with a RUF 6-speed manual transmission, effectively channeling an overwhelming amount of torque to the rear differential equipped with enhanced friction, which subsequently distributes power to its broad (12.5-inch) tires. Noteworthy attributes also encompass an adjustable hydraulic suspension accompanied by a front axle lifting system, a carbon fiber trunk lid, and three-component OZ Superleggera wheels. Internally, RUF experts opted for a cacao-brown leather upholstery complemented by Recaro sports seats.A brief historical account reveals that this automobile was initially adorned in GT Silver and delivered anew to Miami, Florida in February 2007 as a standard Rt12 for RUF Automobile of America. Before its dispatch, it underwent scrutiny at the hands of EVO magazine on the North Loop of the NÃ¼rburgring, bearing the registration number RUF MN100-B.In July 2009, having traversed 11,500 miles, the vehicle returned to the RUF facility on Pfaffenhausen to undergo an upgrade to the Rt12 S version. Besides its amplified power output of 694 horsepower, the couple also received a novel Aero package encompassing a carbon fiber spoiler and an enhanced rear bumper.With its elevated status as an Rt12 S, the vehicle made its way back to the United States in 2011, prepared to substantiate its status as one of the swiftest automobiles worldwide. Following a year and an additional 10,000 miles, the owner decided to entrust it to Lamborghini Palm Beach in September 2012. Subsequently, in December 2015, the vehicle found a new owner in Ed Bolian, the founder of VINwiki.From Bolian, it transitioned to Huber Motor Cars in Virginia. In December 2018, RUF specialist Charlie Lacey from Carrollton, Texas, meticulously restored it to a pristine condition reminiscent of its initial state. The restoration undertaking encompassed a comprehensive reconstruction of the engine, water pump, clutch, rear main seal, brake lines, and the refurbishment of all four brake calipers. Additionally, all belts, seals, and gaskets within the engine and hydraulic suspension system were diligently replaced. The wheels underwent a similar process of restoration and were subsequently fitted with a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires. To further enhance the opulence of the carbon fiber Recaro seats, they were adorned with a captivating pair of RUF peptic inserts. These restoration endeavors reached their completion in 2019.This particular RUF Rt12 S stands as one of the few units ever manufactured and is widely regarded as the sole existing exemplar within the US market. At first glance, its Porsche roots were obvious, and it utilized Porsche's then-new 997-generation chassis. Look closer, however, and you will discover that the Rt12 is an entirely different beast.rnrnThe Rt12, built on the wider body shell of the 997-generation Carrera, represents no less than the sensational top of the small but noble RUF product pyramid. The first distinction is the Rt12's powerplant, a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six based on an earlier M96 blueprint. It is mated to a RUF-built transaxle and limited-slip rear differential, routing power rearward through massive 12.5-inch-wide tires. A proprietary and fully adjustable RUF hydraulic suspension system (with front axle lift function) underpins the car's chassis, while braking is handled by a set of eight-piston (front) and four-piston (rear) calipers tucked inside a staggered set of three-piece OZ Superleggera wheels. To further maximize weight savings, the model's bumpers, hood, and rear decklid are all made of carbon fiber.rnrnAn integrated roll cage is cleverly hidden behind the sumptuously appointed interior trim, and the cabin is further appointed with all the amenities one would expect from a roadgoing Porsche of the most refined variety. When equipped with the optional tall gearing package, the Rt12 could reportedly reach a top speed in excess of 224 miles per hour.rnrnEach example of the Rt12 was thoroughly personalized to the specifications of the buyer, and it is believed that fewer than 15 examples were completed by RUF in total during the model's five-year availability.rnrnThe Rt12 offered here was finished at RUF's Pfaffenhausen, Germany factory in the spring of 2009 and reportedly delivered to a very prominent business leader and car collector in South Korea. In his older years, the South Korean business tycoon had a well-known penchant for being driven around in two-seat sports cars, as opposed to an executive class saloon or limousine. This particular car's five-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission provides an interesting clue towards this passenger theory. It was specified in a striking color combination of Candy Apple Red Metallic over ivory leather with additional carbon fiber accents, red brake calipers, and standard seats. As just one of the tycoon's many exotic cars, this Rt12 remained sparingly used during his decade of ownership. rnrnAs such, since having been acquired by another individual and exported from South Korea in December 2020, this Rt12 displayed just 4,007 kilometers (~2,489 miles) since new at the time of cataloguing.rnrnThe opportunity to acquire a RUF Rt12 is unlikely to repeat itself with any regularity. Very few examples were produced, and well-sorted ones rarely come up for sale on account of their splendid drivability. With its striking appearance and exceptionally low mileage, this particular example is one not to be missed.
